On September 18-19, 2024, ABSL Albania, represented by President Arjodita Mustali, participated in the Gender Equality Forum held in Berlin. The event gathered leaders, and experts from the Western Balkans to discuss strategies for enhancing gender equality, with a particular focus on women’s economic empowerment as a driver of sustainable development and regional growth.
Key Discussions on Economic Empowerment for Women
A central theme of the forum was the economic empowerment of women, especially in underserved rural areas. Discussions highlighted the financial barriers women face in accessing entrepreneurship opportunities, business resources, and leadership roles. The forum emphasized the necessity of gender-inclusive policies that provide women with better access to loans, investment opportunities, and support networks for their businesses.
President Arjodita Mustali contributed valuable insights from her work in Albania, where ABSL Albania has been at the forefront of advocating for women’s economic rights. The discussions also underscored the importance of having women in leadership positions across various sectors, recognizing that their inclusion in decision-making processes can significantly contribute to more effective and inclusive policies.
Exhibition: Honoring Women Leaders in the Western Balkans
A key highlight of the forum was an exhibition celebrating 12 extraordinary women from the Western Balkans, each representing success in different fields. Among them was Arjodita Mustali, honored for her leadership and contributions to gender equality in Albania. These women, whose stories were supported by BMZ and GIZ, serve as inspiring examples of the progress being made toward empowering women in the region.
A Commitment to Women’s Empowerment
Through the participation of President Arjodita Mustali, ABSL Albania reaffirms its commitment to promoting gender equality, particularly by supporting women’s economic empowerment. The forum provided invaluable strategies that will help guide the organization’s efforts in creating a more inclusive society. Empowering women, especially in terms of economic opportunities, remains key to driving both social and economic progress in the Western Balkans.
